Deloitte AI Consulting Alternatives (2026)
Published · AIDOLS Research Team
The main alternatives to Deloitte for AI consulting are the other Big Four firms (EY, PwC, KPMG), global integrators such as Accenture and IBM Consulting, strategy firms such as McKinsey and BCG, mid-tier firms such as Slalom and RSM, and boutiques. The right one depends on why you are leaving: auditor independence, engagement size, speed or price model.
Disclosure: AIDOLS publishes this list and includes itself. AIDOLS is a Toronto AI consultancy and competes with several of the firms below. No firm paid to appear, the list is grouped by the reason buyers switch rather than ranked, and every statement about another firm links to that firm's own website or to press coverage. We do not estimate any named firm's rates or outcomes; where we could not verify a fact, we left it out. Firms that believe a fact here is out of date can write to contact@aidolsgroup.com and we will correct it.
Why buyers look for a Deloitte alternative
Deloitte is a strong choice for a large class of AI work, especially in regulated industries: it combines AI and engineering services with audit, tax and risk advisory, and reported nearly 500,000 people and US$74.5 billion in revenue for fiscal 2026. Buyers look elsewhere for four reasons:
- Auditor independence. If Deloitte audits you, independence rules can limit the consulting work it may do for you.
- Engagement size. The project is one workflow, and a Big Four engagement model is heavier than the job.
- Speed. The buyer wants one system in production within a quarter, not a phased program.
- Price model. The buyer wants a published fixed fee and a written remedy, not negotiated time and materials.
The best alternative depends on which reason is yours.
Alternatives at a glance
| Alternative | Type | Fits best when you are switching because of… |
|---|---|---|
| EY, PwC, KPMG | Big Four | Auditor independence, when you still want a Big Four name |
| Accenture | Global systems integrator | Scale: AI inside large ERP, CRM and cloud programs |
| IBM Consulting | Integrator with its own AI platform | Platform: you are standardizing on IBM watsonx |
| McKinsey (QuantumBlack), BCG X | Strategy firms with AI build units | Strategy: the board decision is the deliverable |
| Slalom, RSM Canada | Mid-tier firms | Size: a mid-size firm rather than a Big Four engagement |
| AltaML, Moov AI, Architech, Electric Mind | Canadian AI firms | Focus: applied AI from a specialist team in Canada |
| AIDOLS (our entry) | Boutique AI consultancy, Toronto | Speed and price model: one workflow, fixed fee, written remedy |
Other Big Four firms
If the reason is auditor independence but the board still expects a Big Four name, the other three firms are the direct substitutes. EY presents its AI services as EY.ai, and EY Canada publishes its AI insights. PwC Canada offers an AI strategy service. KPMG in Canada announced in April 2026 that it was opening AI Labs in Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary, with Montreal to follow.
Consider someone else if: the project is one workflow and you do not need a Big Four name.
Global integrators
Accenture reported approximately 814,000 people at fiscal 2026 year-end. Its Data & AI services include data services, generative AI, responsible AI and the Accenture AI Refinery platform, with partners across the cloud, model and enterprise-software vendors. It fits AI that is one workstream in a large multi-system change.
IBM Consulting says it has more than 75,000 consultants trained in generative AI and builds on IBM watsonx, IBM's portfolio of AI products. It fits enterprises with existing IBM infrastructure or a watsonx standard.
Consider someone else if: the scope is one process and the budget is mid-market.
Strategy firms
McKinsey's AI practice is QuantumBlack, AI by McKinsey; Consultancy.uk reported in 2022 that McKinsey had brought the AI teams from its 100+ offices under the QuantumBlack name. BCG describes BCG X as "the tech build and design unit of BCG". Both fit when the deliverable is a board-level AI strategy with a build team from the same firm. For a three-way view, see Accenture vs McKinsey vs Deloitte for AI.
Consider someone else if: the strategy is already decided.
Production AI in 90 days. Or you don't pay.
First measurable result in 2–3 weeks. If the deployed system does not generate ROI exceeding its fee within 90 days, the fee is refunded in full.
Mid-tier firms
Slalom runs a Canadian practice and describes itself as a "business, technology & AI consulting firm". RSM Canada provides assurance, tax and consulting services to middle-market companies, including AI, analytics and cloud services. Both fit buyers who want a mid-size firm rather than a Big Four engagement.
Consider someone else if: RSM is your auditor and independence rules apply, or you want a specialist AI team.
Canadian AI firms and boutiques
Boutiques are much smaller than the global firms, usually put engineers on the work and price by project.
- AltaML was co-founded in Edmonton in 2018, lists offices in Edmonton, Calgary and Toronto, and calls itself an applied AI company.
- Moov AI says its team of AI experts strategizes, trains and deploys data and AI solutions, calls all of its work applied, and lists offices in Montreal and Toronto.
- Architech describes itself as a Canadian AI workflow redesign and engineering firm founded in 2004, headquartered in Toronto.
- Electric Mind is headquartered in Toronto with a New York office, and lists financial services, transportation and health among its industries.
Consider someone else if: you need a multi-country rollout or audit and assurance sign-off.
AIDOLS (our entry)
AIDOLS is a Toronto AI consultancy, founded in 2024. We map how your operational work actually runs, give a written verdict on what each bottleneck needs (software, a process change, or AI), and deploy AI only where it pays.
| Deloitte | AIDOLS |
|---|---|
| Fees | Not published; Big Four firms bill about $400–$800/hr as a market band (cost guide) |
| Timeline | Not published; depends on program and validation path |
| Outcome guarantee | None found on public AI pages (October 2026) |
| Best fit | Regulated programs needing a Big Four name; AI bundled with risk or tax advice |
Consider someone else if: you need a multi-country program, board-level corporate strategy, or audit and assurance sign-off. AIDOLS does not do those. For the one-to-one view, see AIDOLS vs Deloitte.
How to choose an alternative
Ask every firm on your shortlist the same questions and compare the written answers:
- What will be running in production, and by when?
- Who exactly will do the work, and does the contract name them?
- What is the total cost over 24 months, including follow-on work and platform fees?
- What is the written remedy if the result is not met?
- Is this an AI problem at all? Most of what you are told is an AI problem is a software or process problem, and a good firm will say so.
By some estimates, more than 80% of AI projects fail, twice the failure rate of IT projects that do not involve AI (RAND, 2024), so the answers to questions 1 and 4 matter more than the brand. For the full method, see how to choose an AI consulting firm, and for more firms, our disclosed shortlist.
