Accenture vs McKinsey vs Deloitte for AI (2026)
Published · AIDOLS Research Team
Accenture, McKinsey and Deloitte solve different AI problems. Accenture fits large programs that put AI inside ERP, CRM and cloud modernization. McKinsey, through QuantumBlack, fits board-level strategy paired with an AI build team. Deloitte fits regulated organizations that want AI next to risk, audit-adjacent and tax advice. A boutique often fits one workflow better.

Accenture: AI inside large modernization programs
Accenture reported approximately 814,000 people at fiscal 2026 year-end and US$74.2 billion in revenue for the twelve months to 31 August 2026. Its fact sheet describes an AI and Data engine powered by Accenture's Center for Advanced AI. Its Data & AI services page lists offerings from data services and generative AI to AI strategy and value, responsible AI and the Accenture AI Refinery platform, and partners across the hyperscalers, the model labs and the enterprise-software vendors.
Best for: multi-country programs where AI is one workstream inside an ERP, CRM, data or cloud change, delivered by a large bench under one master agreement. Consider someone else if: the scope is one workflow and the budget is mid-market.
McKinsey: strategy with a build team attached
QuantumBlack, AI by McKinsey, is McKinsey's AI practice. Consultancy.uk reported in 2022 that QuantumBlack, founded in 2009 to apply data science to Formula 1 teams and acquired by McKinsey in 2015, had grown into a community of more than 1,000 practitioners, and that McKinsey had brought the AI teams from its 100+ offices under the QuantumBlack name.
Best for: large enterprises where the deliverable is an AI strategy and a multi-year budget that must clear the board, with working systems built by the same firm. Consider someone else if: the strategy is already decided and what you need is one system in production.
Production AI in 90 days. Or you don't pay.
First measurable result in 2–3 weeks. If the deployed system does not generate ROI exceeding its fee within 90 days, the fee is refunded in full.
Deloitte: AI next to audit, risk and tax
Deloitte reported US$74.5 billion in aggregate revenue for the fiscal year ended 31 May 2026 and a workforce of nearly 500,000. Its announcement names Zora AI by Deloitte, an agentic AI platform built with NVIDIA, and its Trustworthy AI framework. Its US site lists Applied AI alongside its AI & Engineering, AI & Data, industry solutions and Cyber AI services, and names alliances that include AWS, Google, Oracle, Salesforce, SAP, ServiceNow and Workday.
Best for: banks, insurers, health systems and public bodies where governance documentation must satisfy a board, an audit committee or a regulator, and where AI work is bundled with risk or tax advice. Consider someone else if: Deloitte is your auditor and independence rules limit the consulting it can do, or the project is small.
How to choose between the three
- Choose McKinsey when the decision itself is the deliverable: which AI bets to make, in what order, with what budget, argued to a board.
- Choose Accenture when the decision is made and the work is execution across many systems and countries.
- Choose Deloitte when the gating artefact is governance and assurance credibility in a regulated setting.
- Choose none of them when the job is one workflow, the budget is mid-market, and the buyer wants a working system within a quarter.
Whichever firm you choose, ask the same questions: what will be running in production and by when, who exactly will do the work, what the total cost is over 24 months, and what the written remedy is if the result is not met.
When a boutique fits better
The three large firms are built for large programs. Their engagement models, partner-led staffing and negotiated terms make sense at that scale and are heavy for a narrower job. A boutique usually fits better when:
- The scope is one operational workflow, such as claims intake, invoice processing, ticket triage or production scheduling.
- The buyer wants a fixed fee rather than open-ended time and materials.
- The people scoping the work should be the people doing it.
- The answer might not be AI. Most of what you are told is an AI problem is a software or process problem, and a smaller firm with no platform alliances has no reason to sell you more AI than you need.
