AI Consulting Cost in Canada (2026): CAD Rates and Fees
Published · AIDOLS Research Team
In Canada, AI consulting costs about CAD $215 to CAD $1,420+ an hour in 2026, depending on the type of firm. Those are the USD market bands converted at the Bank of Canada rate of 1.4222 CAD per USD (13 October 2026). Fixed-fee work is priced per engagement: an AIDOLS Build is about CAD $107K–$213K.
AI consulting rates in Canada by firm type (CAD)
Canadian firms usually quote in Canadian dollars, while most published rate benchmarks are in US dollars. The table converts the 2026 USD bands from the AIDOLS AI consulting cost guide at the Bank of Canada daily average rate of 1.4222 CAD per USD for 13 October 2026, rounded to the nearest $5. It is a currency conversion of the same bands, not a separate Canadian survey.
| Firm type | USD rate | CAD equivalent |
|---|---|---|
| Independent consultant | $150–$350/hr | CAD $215–$500/hr |
| Boutique firm | $150–$300/hr | CAD $215–$425/hr |
| Mid-tier firm | $300–$500/hr | CAD $425–$710/hr |
| Big Four (Deloitte, PwC, EY, KPMG) | $400–$800/hr | CAD $570–$1,140/hr |
| MBB (McKinsey, BCG, Bain) | $500–$1,000+/hr | CAD $710–$1,420+/hr |
The spread comes from brand premium, seniority and whether the team advises or builds. We know of no public data that separates these bands by Canadian city; in Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver, the firm type is the larger driver of price.
AI consulting cost by engagement type (CAD)
An hourly rate is only half of a quote. What a buyer pays depends on the type of engagement. The ranges below are the planning estimates from the cost guide, converted at the same rate and rounded to the nearest thousand.
| Engagement type | USD range | CAD equivalent | Typical duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| AI strategy assessment | $25K–$75K | CAD $36K–$107K | 2–4 weeks |
| Proof of concept or pilot | $50K–$250K | CAD $71K–$356K | 4–8 weeks |
| Single use case in production | $100K–$500K | CAD $142K–$711K | 2–4 months |
| Enterprise-wide AI program | $500K–$5M+ | CAD $711K–$7.1M+ | 6–18 months |
| Managed AI services | $10K–$100K/month | CAD $14K–$142K/month | Ongoing |
| Training and enablement | $5K–$50K | CAD $7K–$71K | 1–4 weeks |
These are ranges for planning, not quotes. Data preparation, integration with older systems and scope changes are the usual reasons a time-and-materials engagement ends above its first estimate.
What AIDOLS charges, in USD and CAD
AIDOLS is a Toronto AI consultancy. It publishes fixed fees in US dollars on its pricing page:
| AIDOLS tier | Fee (USD) | About (CAD, at 1.4222) | What it covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sprint | $15K–$25K | CAD $21K–$36K | 2–3 week diagnostic: audit, opportunity map with ROI estimates, 90-day roadmap |
| Build | $75K–$150K | CAD $107K–$213K | 90 days: one production AI system, 40%+ efficiency target |
| Scale | $25K/month | CAD $36K/month | Monthly retainer for systems shipped through a Build |
The guarantee: if the deployed system does not generate ROI exceeding its fee within 90 days, the fee is refunded in full (Scale tier: prorated refund). The Sprint is an assessment, not a deployment, so it is excluded from the refund. See fixed-fee AI consulting for the terms. The fees are quoted in USD, so the CAD figures move with the exchange rate.
Programs that can offset the cost in Canada
Two federal programs come up in almost every Canadian AI budget conversation. Both have eligibility rules, and neither pays for routine deployment by default.
- SR&ED. The Canada Revenue Agency's Scientific Research and Experimental Development tax incentive program gives an investment tax credit of 15% of qualified expenditures, or 35% (refundable, up to an annual expenditure limit) for eligible Canadian-controlled private corporations. Only work that meets the SR&ED definition qualifies: resolving a technological uncertainty, not configuring an existing tool.
- NRC IRAP. The National Research Council's Industrial Research Assistance Program offers advisory services and funding to eligible small and medium-sized businesses for innovation projects.
- Provincial credits. Some provinces add their own research credits. In Ontario, eligible corporations can claim the refundable Ontario Innovation Tax Credit on qualifying SR&ED expenditures.
Treat these as possible offsets, not as part of the price. Ask the provider in writing which parts of the work it expects to qualify, and confirm with the CRA, the NRC or a tax adviser before you sign.
Production AI in 90 days. Or you don't pay.
First measurable result in 2–3 weeks. If the deployed system does not generate ROI exceeding its fee within 90 days, the fee is refunded in full.
Canadian rules that change the scope
Rules do not change the hourly rate, but they change how much review work an engagement needs.
- PIPEDA governs how private-sector organizations collect, use and disclose personal information, including in AI systems. See the Office of the Privacy Commissioner's PIPEDA overview.
- Quebec Law 25 adds stricter privacy obligations for organizations handling the personal information of people in Quebec; the Commission d'accès à l'information oversees it.
- OSFI Guideline E-23 on model risk management applies to federally regulated financial institutions from 1 May 2027 (OSFI). Banks and insurers should expect model documentation and validation in scope.
- No federal AI statute. The proposed Artificial Intelligence and Data Act (AIDA) died with Bill C-27 when Parliament was prorogued in January 2025. See our guide to Canadian AI compliance.
Planned from week one, these reviews run alongside the build. Left to the end, they add a phase. Our AI implementation timeline guide covers how long implementation takes in Canada.
How to compare AI consulting quotes in Canada
- Use one currency and one date. Convert USD and CAD quotes at the same Bank of Canada rate before you compare them.
- Ask for a total, not a rate. Give every firm the same written scope and ask for a fixed total. An hourly rate does not tell you how many hours.
- Separate advice from delivery. A strategy assessment and a system running in production are different purchases. Ask what will be running, and when.
- Ask for the remedy in writing. What happens if the result is not met: a refund, a fee reduction, or nothing?
- Price the offsets last. Count SR&ED or IRAP only after eligibility is confirmed.
- Check whether you need AI at all. Most of what you are told is an AI problem is a software or process problem. A free workflow map gives a written verdict on one workflow before you buy anything.

Methodology
The hourly bands are AIDOLS Research Team estimates of typical 2026 list rates by firm type, published in the AI consulting cost guide. They are editorial estimates, not survey results, and individual quotes vary with seniority, scope and region. Canadian-dollar figures convert the USD figures at the Bank of Canada daily average rate for 13 October 2026 (1.4222 CAD per USD): hourly figures rounded to the nearest $5, engagement and fee figures to the nearest thousand. AIDOLS fees are the published fixed fees on the pricing page. Program descriptions summarize the official pages linked below and are not tax advice.
